About me.
I am a fully qualified Psychotherapist and and Yoga Teacher registered with the YAP, the Association of Dance Movement Psychotherapists UK (ADMP) and with UKCP membership working towards accreditation. I have specialised skills and interest working with complex trauma (from abuse, attachment based and developmental) and spirituality. Personal experiences have led me to seek healing, access support and have provided much fuel for the desire to give back.
Professional background and Experience.
Therapeutic work has taken me across a range of settings in various mental health hospitals, charities and in education since 2014. After qualifying I began practising at The YWHP offering therapy for young women and their families with experiences of domestic violence and sexual abuse. I then gained experience as a supervisor and service manager in this setting. I have also worked with children, adolescents and older adults for other non-for-profit and educational settings in South and West Yorkshire, including Sheffield Mind and Derby University.
I carry six years of experience and over 500 clinical hours within the mental health and homelessness sectors. Clinically I have worked with individuals and groups of people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, belief systems, cultures and ethnicities.
Approach.
Each person is unique and what works for one doesn’t necessarily for another. My approach is relational and integrative. I draw from several models (Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Transpersonal). I may actively encourage bringing your subconscious to the surface, to help understand and process difficult memories. Sometimes presence and unconditional positive regard will take the foreground.
I apply thoughtful, intuitive sensitivity with awareness of safety and ethics. I am supported via regular clinical supervision and additional trainings.
I refer to trauma treatment models as a general map for deeper work. Dance Movement Psychotherapy based tools are strengths based, and support reconnection with your body and it’s preferred ways of moving and relating. Jungian and Transpersonal ideas I enjoy studying and incorporating into practice. My interest in shamanic traditions, rituals, use of rhythm, movement and the voice within indigenous communities continues to grow..
On the naming of “Inhabit”.
Psychotherapy for me is about “re-membering” of lost parts of us, pieces of our psyche gone astray - not yet developed, hidden or rejected - leaving a sense of “something off” inside us, often difficult to name or rationalise. Change through healing is a kind of homecoming, towards the place where we “inhabit”, right here and now, in our earthly bodies! This is both a personal and collective matter intertwined. How can we live more in harmony with our own selves, our own nature and our repair connection to the natural world around us? Inhabit is based on this dedication to walk the path back home.
